1. What do I need for a home golf simulator?

A home golf simulator is made up of several components working together, and the right combination depends on your space, budget, and goals. At the core, most setups need a launch monitor to track the shot, an impact screen or net to catch the ball, and a golf mat to create the hitting area. You will also typically add a projector to display the course image and, in many cases, an enclosure to frame the screen and improve safety and presentation.

From there, many setups also include software, a gaming or computing device depending on the simulator platform, protective accessories, cables, mounts, turf, side barriers, and other finishing pieces. Some golfers want a portable setup they can move or use outdoors, while others want a dedicated room with a permanent overhead launch monitor and a polished enclosure system.

The best setup is not one-size-fits-all. Some golfers prioritize budget, some care most about realism, some need a compact garage solution, and others want a premium simulator room. That is why we help customers compare components across brands and choose what actually fits their room and use case.

2. How much space do I need for a golf simulator?

The space needed for a golf simulator depends on your height, swing, launch monitor type, and the kind of setup you are building. In general, the most important measurements are ceiling height, room width, and room depth. Taller golfers usually need more ceiling clearance, and some launch monitors or projector setups require additional depth behind or around the hitting area.

Many home simulator setups work best with around 9 feet of ceiling height or more, but the ideal dimensions vary depending on the player and equipment. A dedicated room can allow for a cleaner and more immersive experience, but many golfers also build very effective setups in garages, basements, and multi-use spaces.

If you are unsure whether your room will work, we can help you think through dimensions, product fitment, and which type of launch monitor or enclosure makes the most sense.

3. What’s the difference between portable and overhead launch monitors?

Portable launch monitors are designed for flexibility. Many can be used both indoors and outdoors, making them a strong choice for golfers who want to practice at the range, set up in a garage, or build a simulator without committing to a permanent installation. They are often the best fit for golfers who want lower upfront cost and more versatility.

Overhead launch monitors are better suited to dedicated indoor simulator rooms. They mount above the hitting area, create a cleaner setup, and are especially convenient for households with both right- and left-handed players. They are often preferred for premium long-term builds where convenience, layout, and room integration matter most.

The right choice depends on whether you value flexibility or a cleaner permanent setup, as well as your room, budget, and simulator goals.

4. What’s the best golf simulator for under $5,000 or $10,000?

The best simulator at a given budget depends on whether you are optimizing for realism, portability, room polish, or value. Under lower budgets, many golfers focus on building smart around a portable launch monitor and a simpler screen or net setup. As the budget increases, it becomes easier to add a more complete enclosure, better projection, higher-end hitting surfaces, and more premium launch monitor options.

There is no single best package for everyone because different golfers care about different things. Some want the most accurate data possible. Others want the most immersive room setup. Others care most about flexibility or getting started at the lowest practical cost.

That is why we offer both individual components and curated packages, so you can compare the options and choose the setup that best matches your priorities.

5. Can I use a golf simulator for both game improvement and playing courses?

Yes. Most golf simulators can serve both purposes. A simulator can help with game improvement by giving you shot feedback, ball data, and structured practice opportunities, while also letting you play virtual rounds and enjoy simulated courses for entertainment.

Some golfers primarily want a training tool. Others mostly want the fun and immersion of playing courses at home. Many want both. The best setup for you depends on how much emphasis you place on data, realism, software experience, and whether you want a flexible or dedicated space.

If you are not sure what kind of setup best fits your goals, we can help you narrow it down.
